Each species took its place in the greenhouses, African violet was allocated, for example, only 1 square meter. But once the company’s owner Hermann Holtkamp decided to change the model of the company and deal only with Saintpaulias. Then the active work on the creation of new varieties began and in the mid-twentieth century a great success came to the company.
The first commercial grade breeding Holtkamp (1952) was Sankt Martin. Thus began the large-scale cultivation of violets, the company began to produce more and more new varieties of Saintpaulia, and slowly squeezed out almost all of the existing plants from greenhouses.
In 1961, the company changed its name from Dorrenbach-Holtkamp to Hermann Holtkamp's greenhouses. In 1977, greenhouses were opened in Nashville, Tennessee for growing saintpaulia, and at the same time the trademark Optimara was patented.
