Appearance and features

Nolina is a native of sunny and hot Mexico. In the wild, it grows on barren stony soils, regularly experiencing periods of drought. This is the way of life that formed the unusual look of the plant.

Barrel noliny has the shape of a bottle with a strongly thickened base.

The drier the climate, the larger the bulb in the lower part of the trunk, which serves as a natural reservoir for water.

Because of the shape of the trunk, the bocarnay is often called the “Elephant Foot”.

The tall trunk ends in a lush sultan of dense narrow dark green leaves falling down.

In English-speaking countries, the plant has received the name "Horse tail". The size of the valley is average, but some specimens can grow up to one and a half meters.

  • correct placement;
  • moderate watering;
  • timely transplant;
  • period of winter dormancy.

Accommodation in the room

The best place for a bent bullet is a window sill facing south-west or south-east. In especially hot hours the plant can be shaved with a translucent curtain or blinds.

Important! Some flower growers believe that for good health, the Nolina necessarily need direct sunlight.

In autumn and winter, during the period of short days of light, additional illumination is required.

Install a lamp over the plant and turn it on for 2-3 hours per day.

The plant is not too demanding on temperature. Special conditions for noliny create not required. In the period of growth, in spring and summer, the ideal option is 20-22 degrees.

In winter, you can organize a rest period. The temperature drops to 12 degrees, watering is reduced, the plant slows growth until spring.

If there is no possibility for wintering, the bocarnay can be left in the room under normal temperature conditions.

Watering and fertilizer

"Bokarneya" does not like the overmoistening of the soil. Excess moisture leads to the disappearance of a spectacular bulb at the base, the stem looses weight and stretches.

In addition, he can rot, in severe cases, the injured plant can not be saved.

Water "Nolina" need when the topsoil dries out a bit. In the warm season it is done more often.

It is better to use very soft water, for example, boiled, brought to room temperature. Bokarnayu sent for wintering is watered very sparingly, making sure that the earthen room is not completely dry.

"Nolina" can be fed with complex liquid fertilizer for ornamental leaf plants. no more than 1 time in 20-30 days. Fertilizers are applied only during the growth period, starting from September, fertilizing should be stopped until spring.

Important! Before applying the fertilizer, the soil should be watered well to avoid burning the roots.

Cropping and crown formation

"Bokarneya" does not need pruningin normal development, it independently regulates the volume of green mass.

To stimulate the growth of new leaves, it is not recommended to leave an adult plant without a transplant for more than 4 years. "Nolina" can stretch, the leaves will thin, the trunk will bare.

Preserve the beauty of the flower will help the timely removal of sluggish, yellowed or damaged leaves. They are carefully cut off at the base.

Darkened leaf tips are also recommended to remove. Too lush crown can be thinned out, but you should not abuse the pruning.

Reproduction and transplanting

Many novice growers prefer not to multiply "Nolin", buying new copies in the store.

However, some lovers believe that it is possible to plant a plant at home.

Two methods of reproduction are practiced: by seeds or by using lateral processes.

The seeds collected from adults by the old ones are treated with a growth stimulator and sown in a greenhouse or container.covered with glass.

Important! The best soil for sowing is a mixture of peat and sand in equal proportions. Seeds are planted shallowly and slightly powdered with soil.

The container is placed in a well-lit, draft-free place. Accelerate the germination process will help constant lighting lamp. Requires careful watering without stagnant moisture in the soil.

Instead of the usual watering the soil can be sprayed with boiled water.

For normal seed sodding in the room you need to maintain a temperature not lower than 22 degrees. Shoots will appear in 4-5 weeks.

After the formation of the first sheets, the young nolins harden, removing the lid or glass from the greenhouse. When the plants get stronger, they can be planted in pots and placed in a permanent place.

For reproduction by division, strong lateral processes are cut off with a sharp knife. They can be treated with a growth stimulator and rooted in water or immediately buried in a light peat-based substratum.

Capacity with a process is covered with a glass jar and inserted into bright light. The temperature in the room should not fall below 20 degrees. The shoot is more convenient not to water, but to spray with boiled water at room temperature.

Young "Nolina" is recommended to replant annuallyolder specimens need a pot change every 3-4 years.

The pot can be ceramic or plastic, wide enough, but not deep. The roots of the brocadee are short and weak, they do not need containers too deep.

Important to make good drainageto avoid stagnant moisture. The soil is chosen light, with an admixture of peat and sand.

Use of ready-made universal mixes is acceptable. If the soil is prepared independently, it is recommended to ignite it in order to destroy the parasites.
