How to plant and grow tomato "Taimyr"

Of the many varieties of tomatoes present on the market, the Taimyr variety is distinguished by the fact that it is adapted to the conditions of regions with short and cool summer. These features determine its popularity in many northern regions. The peculiarities of cultivation of this hybrid will be discussed in this publication.

Variety description

Variety "Taimyr" refers to the early ripening. The plant is standard, it is distinguished by compact shrubs up to 30-35 cm in height, as well as medium-sized green leaves and simple buds. Usually 4-5 brushes are formed on the bush. "Taimyr" resistant to spring frosts and diseases. It can be grown both in greenhouses and in open ground. Quite widespread in Siberia and in the North-West regions of Russia.

Did you know? The first variety of tomatoes that came to Europe had yellow fruits, which is why the Italians called these fruits tomatoes, which means “golden apple”.
For the northern regions, this tomato is almost perfect: it is adapted to the local climate, resistant to a variety of diseases, has good yield and good taste. In regions with a milder climate, it is preferable to grow varieties even if less resistant to adverse weather conditions, but superior to Taimyr in other parameters: taste, yield, etc.

Fruit characteristics and yield

The fruits of "Taimyr" medium size, round shape, dense, red color. They are positioned as lettuce, their good taste and the ability to transport these tomatoes over considerable distances is noted. The mass of one tomato reaches about 80-100 grams. With one bush can collect up to one and a half pounds of fruit.

Seed selection

The seeds of this variety are distributed by the company "Biotechnics". It guarantees their compliance with GOST R52171-2003, in one package must be at least 25 seeds. In addition, since this variety is not a hybrid, you can collect the seeds yourself, from the fruits of the previous Taimyr harvest. To do this, use fully ripened fruit. Hollow seeds floating in the water are rejected. The rest stand 20-30 minutes in a weak solution of potassium permanganate, then dried and poured into paper labeled sachets until spring.

Important! Do not confuse the early ripe variety "Taimyr" from the company "Biotechnics" and the hybrid mid-season variety "Taimyr" (may be labeled "Taimyr F1"), the originator of which in the State Register is RIJK ZWAAN ZAADTEELT EN ZAADHANDEL B.V.

Growing conditions

In the northern regions in the open ground "Taimyr" is usually planted in the first third of June, with a stable positive air temperature and a long light day. Excessive moistening affects this vegetable negatively, but the plant needs regular watering (more on this later). A fertile, fairly light soil with a slightly acid or neutral reaction is desirable.

We grow tomatoes in the greenhouse and in the open field.
If the soil is acidic, then it is lime, sand is added to heavy soils, it provides drainage. The best precursors for tomatoes are onions, beans and cabbage. It is undesirable to plant them after potatoes and eggplants - in this case the risk of plant disease increases.

Seed preparation and planting

This vegetable is grown by rassadny way. Germinate seeds begin in mid-April. To begin with, the seeds are laid out on a flat surface covered with a damp cloth, then they are also covered with a cloth on top. Within a few days, they must roll. Germinated seeds are planted in a container for seedlings. Soil in such tanks should be fertile and loose. It is better to purchase a prepared substrate for them. Before planting seeds moisten the soil in the tanks. In the process of planting in the soil, a toothpick makes about centimeter grooves, put them in seeds and drop them in with earth. Then the containers are covered with a transparent film, which must be removed after germination. Throughout this process, the earth is periodically moistened with a spray gun, preventing it from drying out, the temperature in the room is maintained at about + 25 ° C.

Did you know? For a long time, tomatoes were considered inedible or even poisonous by Europeans. They say that attitudes towards tomatoes changed after American colonel Robert Gibbon Johnson ate a whole bucket of tomatoes in 1820, while his health was not injured.
After a few days after the removal of the film, when the seedlings confidently grow, you should begin to reduce the temperature of the room in which the seedlings are located. This should be done gradually, and stop when the temperature reaches + 17 ° C. In the same period, you need to organize additional lighting for seedlings, so that the shoots are covered at least 12-14 hours per day. With the formation of two leaves sprout dive.

Planting seedlings in open ground

As mentioned above, seedlings are transplanted into open ground in the first decade of June. Before planting, organic fertilizers are applied to future beds. In the spring, beds can be treated with Bordeaux mixture or copper sulphate solution. They make the soil according to the instructions. Such treatment will improve the quality of the soil and disinfect it. When planting, seedlings are carefully removed from the cups, so that a clod of soil does not crumble from the roots of the plant. Then they are placed in prepared pits. The bed should be watered in advance. Next to the sprouts immediately set the pegs for garter stems. Planting in greenhouses is exactly the same. The seed producer allows for up to 15 plants per square meter of beds. However, such thickening in many cases does not justify itself, so you can limit yourself to a less dense planting, for example, 8-10 plants per square meter.

Maintenance and care

Watering "Taimyr" should be regular, about once a week, unless, of course, there is no rain. This procedure is usually accompanied by loosening the soil around the bushes of tomatoes and removing weeds. When the fruits begin to ripen, the intensity of watering should be reduced by one and a half to two times. If summer is hot, mulching with sawdust or straw is used to preserve moisture in the soil. In principle, this variety does not need to be staked. But sometimes there are too many stepsons on the bushes, and if some of them are not removed, the crop may not mature. Feed tomatoes with diluted mullein with the addition of potash and phosphate fertilizers. Mullear can be replaced with liquid chicken manure. During the summer, spend six dressings, including the introduction of organic matter before planting bushes in open ground. Garter bushes are required.

Important! After transplanting, it is not recommended to feed the plants with nitrogen fertilizers - this can lead to excessive growth of the bushes, a decrease in yield and a drop in its quality.

Disease and pest prevention

This variety is very resistant to various diseases, especially against late blight. However, in the spring, as a preventive measure, the future landing site is treated with a solution of vitriol or bordeaux mixture. These fungicides are used according to the instructions. In addition, disinfection of seeds with a solution of potassium permanganate is used (see the section “Selection of seeds”).

This variety is not less resistant to pests, however, mites, bedbugs, aphids, bears, nematodes, etc. can harm it. As a preventive measure, deep autumn plowing with insecticide application is usually used. If the plants are invaded by pests, they are treated according to the instructions of the relevant insecticides, such as "Malophos", "Decis", "Provotox" and other drugs. Medvedka.

Harvesting and storage

Harvest as the fruits ripen. You can collect them immature, they may well ripen in the room. The fruits of these tomatoes are very dense and tolerate transportation. Use them fresh, and also make canned ketchups and gas stations, freeze them fresh in the freezer, etc.

So, the variety "Taimyr" is valuable for its unpretentiousness to the climate of the northern regions. At the same time he has a good yield and taste. Therefore, this variety is worthy of attention of people cultivating a vegetable garden in a fairly harsh climate.
