Outbreak of botulism in Kiev: A child was in intensive care because of dried fish

Sergey Chumak, Acting Director of the Kiev Laboratory Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, reported this conclusion. A 6-year-old child suffered because he ate a dried carp that his father had prepared himself.

After complaints of vomiting and abdominal pain, the child was hospitalized, but when they conducted a more detailed analysis and learned that he had botulism, he was transferred to intensive care. Botulinum toxoid, a vaccine against the disease, has already been introduced and now it only remains to wait for the amendment.

According to the minister, for the period 2018 in Kiev, 11 cases of botulism were registered, and a 47-year-old woman died.
